January was an exciting month at Protomold. We completed our facility expansion, have our second shift up and running, upgraded our inventory control system, went paperless in our production environment and issued a record number of quotations for "simple" parts, FAST! ? All while shipping more parts to more customers than ever before.
This means that we can mould your parts faster and more cost effectively than anyone else, and in the engineering resin of your choice - including glass filled. Please review the following case study and visit our web site to see other application examples or request a quote on-line!
Register now to keep up-to-date on the latest Protomold developments and news from the rapid injection moulding field. When we receive your registration we will mail to you a complimentary stack of Protomold Post-ItTM Notes.
And if we quote some parts for you, we'll also send you one of these very cool light-up pens!
Exsent, Inc. of Saint Paul, Minnesota is a leading developer of productivity tools for electronics engineers. The newest of these, known as the PinPortTM, provides a revolutionary interface between the hardware being developed and the engineer's simulation environment. Protomold is very proud to have played a supporting role in the team effort that rapidly brought this exciting product to market. As recalled by Exsent President Ron Larson, the conceptual design for PinPort was developed in conjunction with Tim Proue of Triality, Inc. in May of 2001. To create the mechanical CAD design, Ron contracted in June with Keith Nybakke of Nuhill Technologies. The result of this collaboration was the specification of a translucent blue ABS material for the lower half of the enclosure, and a translucent white upper cover. Ron remembers, "The design envisioned by Tim and Keith introduced some interesting challenges. We knew that injection moulded materials could do the job, but our early production volumes didn't justify the tooling prices we were being quoted by our conventional suppliers. So we decided to give cast urethane parts a try and made some prototype parts. Besides the dimensional tradeoffs you tend to get with urethane parts, we also found that the colour of the parts would change over time. So we needed a new idea, and that's when Keith suggested that we prototype with Protomold". Exsent contacted Protomold in mid July of 2001, and by early August they had received their first shipment of colour-stable, real plastic injection moulded parts that met their requirements. And this was all done at a cost dramatically lower than what is possible through conventional injection moulding technology.
As Ron points out, "Exsent had a very positive experience with Protomold, both on this enclosure part and on several others they have made in support of our new product introductions. They're a great team member and we're looking forward to working with Protomold again in the future". We were happy to be of service to Ron and would welcome the opportunity to do the same for you.
We're ready when you are.
